Art School Greenz Intro to Oil Painting Exhibit

Still Life Paintings
The tradition of painting still lifes dates back to the 16th century as is closely related to the development of oil paint as a medium. Still lifes in art history give us an idea of literally what occupied the space of the artist or the patron commissioning the painting. At times they were to show opulence and excess and at other times they show common everyday items. For the artist, still life paintings are a way to show mastery of observation and skill with the medium (oil paint). A still life should have things that are rough, smooth, organic, man-made, etc. so that an artist can show how well they are able to represent these different textures and surfaces. At Art School Greenz, we believe that our art should look like it comes from a certain time in history and from a specific place. The objects in the still life are objects commonly found in Grenada and represents our own, tropical contribution to the tradition of still life painting.

Teacher, Asher Mains, is very proud of all of these Intro to Oil Painting student paintings, many of them are their first attempts at painting.
